What is the difference between a skin specialist and a dermatologist?

Though for most of the people, they are considered to be one and the same thing. A dermatologist is a certified skin specialist who has done post-graduation for 2-4 years in the same field studying different skin, hair, and nail diseases along with specialization in various sexually transmitted diseases, cosmetology, and laser procedures. A Qualified Dermatologist in India has either of these degrees MBBS, MD (Skin and VD), DVD, DDVL, DNB(Skin & VD). However, due to increased awareness about skincare in general population and popularity of dermatologists, many unqualified medical professionals are claiming to be skin specialist. They usually have one of these degrees ( BAMS, BHMS, DHMS, lCEH, GCEH, AM (alternative med), TDVL, Trained at ILAMED, PGDCC, BDS, MDS ) but are not dermatologists. It is important to show yourself to a qualified dermatologist to avoid any wrong and prolonged treatments
